Final injury report vs. Chiefs is bad news for 49ers' leading receiver

It's less than ideal for the Niners to be without their No. 1 wide receiver this season, Jauan Jennings, in Week 7 against the Chiefs.

The 49ers are going to be without their top wide receiver through 2024, Jauan Jennings, for a key Week 7 showdown against the Chiefs.

The San Francisco 49ers will need all the weapons they can get for their Week 7 Super Bowl rematch against the visiting Kansas City Chiefs.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as if they'll be at full strength.

The Niners have already dealt with plenty of injuries this year, including missing All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) for all of 2024 so far. Likewise, tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Deebo Samuel have both missed time.

Heading into Week 7, it appears another key weapon will be out of service, wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

Jennings, who leads San Francisco with 404 receiving yards over six weeks, suffered a hip injury during the 49ers' Thursday Night Football win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6. Not practicing the days in advance of the KC game, Jennings' status for the high-profile tilt was very much in doubt.

With Friday's practice now complete, Jennings and the Niners received some bad news.

49ers injury report vs. Chiefs: Jauan Jennings ruled out for Week 7

Speaking to reporters after practice, head coach Kyle Shanahan declared Jennings would miss the game because of his injury.

Additionally, the following declarations were made about other injured players:

While Jennings' absence is less than ideal, it does open up for the news of rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (gunshot wound) being activated off the non-football injury list and making his NFL debut after his practice window opened this week.

But Pearsall might have to take a proverbial back seat to fellow wideouts like Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, who figure to serve as quarterback Brock Purdy's primary targets against KC's vaunted defense.

Shanahan also announced placing kicker Matthew Wright (shoulder) on injured reserve while promoting kicker Anders Carlsen from the practice squad to replace Wright, who originally replaced Moody.

The Niners and Chiefs kick off on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
