Final 49ers injury report vs. Cowboys eliminates Jauan Jennings' return
By Peter Panacy
The 49ers will be without their leading wide receiver, Jauan Jennings, again this week when the Niners host the Cowboys.
The San Francisco 49ers sorely needed wide receiver Jauan Jennings during their Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, especially after losing fellow wideout Brandon Aiyuk to what turned out to be a season-ending knee injury.
Jennings has been a go-to favorite for quarterback Brock Purdy, still leading the Niners with 404 receiving yards despite missing Week 7 with a hip injury.
Unfortunately, it appears as if Purdy and Co. will have to function without Jennings again when they host the 3-3 Dallas Cowboys in Week 8 for Sunday Night Football.
Jennings was an absentee all three days of practice leading up to Sunday's primetime contest, and even general manager John Lynch went on KNBR 680 Friday morning and proclaimed the receiver wouldn't likely play versus Dallas.
Later that day, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed Jennings' Week 8 fate.
49ers Week 8 injury report: Jauan Jennings ruled OUT Cowboys
Check out San Francisco's final injury report for Week 8 against the Cowboys:
Player | Injury | Game designation |
---|---|---|
WR Jauan Jennings | hip | OUT |
DT Kevin Givens | groin | OUT |
TE George Kittle | foot | Questionable |
WR Deebo Samuel | wrist/illness | Questionable |
DB Deommodore Lenoir | illness | Questionable |
S George Odum | knee | Questionable |
Additionally, being without reserve defensive tackle Kevin Givens will put increased pressure on an already depleted defensive line that lost Pro Bowl defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (triceps) earlier this season.
If there's good news, the 49ers will welcome back fellow receiver Deebo Samuel, who appeared for a mere three snaps against KC before departing that game and eventually landing in the hospital with a bout of pneumonia.
Despite being listed as questionable, he was able to practice in full late in the week.
Additionally, tight end George Kittle (foot) is poised to play and could be a big factor for Purdy and the offense.
