D.K. Metcalf won't be traded, 49ers can still live 'rent free' in his head
By Peter Panacy
According to ESPN, the Seahawks aren't moving D.K. Metcalf, meaning the 49ers still get to face him twice a year for the foreseeable future.
There's already been a flurry of deals taking place leading up to the 2024 NFL trade deadline, and plenty of them have involved high-profile wide receivers.
Star wideouts Amari Cooper and Davante Adams were traded to the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets, respectively, while the Tennessee Titans moved DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs.
In what's turning into a seller's market at the position, it's understandable why the 4-5 Seattle Seahawks could entertain trading one of their star receivers, D.K. Metcalf.
Metcalf, 26 years old, could have been a movable asset, especially considering he carries zero in guaranteed money in 2025 and is scheduled to be a free agent the following offseason.
But, with no one running away with the NFC West, the Hawks are apparently opting to hold onto their most formidable wide receiver.
D.K. Metcalf to stay with Seahawks, 49ers can be happy about that
According to a deadline-day report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Seattle is not trading Metcalf to any bidders:

Of course, the San Francisco 49ers would welcome a division rival parting ways with a formidable player. However, given their recent string of success against Metcalf, ensuring he stays within the NFC West might actually be a welcomed non-move.
Over 11 regular-season games versus the Niners, Metcalf has 55 receptions for 680 yards and five touchdowns. But, since 2020, San Francisco has largely kept Metcalf in check, holding him to less than 70 yards in the eight games since a 161-yard, two-touchdown effort back in Week 8 of the aforementioned season.
Plus, the 49ers have made it something of a habit to irritate Metcalf whenever possible.
Judging by recent performances, the approach is working.
The Niners already beat Seattle once this season, shutting down Metcalf and Co. in a primetime Thursday night showdown in Week 6. The two teams will play each other again in Week 11 to close out the season series.
And it appears as if Metcalf will be present for that NFC West showdown.
