Commanders could add 1 juicy wrinkle that'd change everything for Brandon Aiyuk

The drama would only get better, should this actually happen.

Of the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Commanders and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, the former two are definitely much better at playing the waiting game.

All it would take is to comb through Aiyuk's plethora of anti-Niners rants on social media to confirm that.

The embattled San Francisco pass catcher couldn't wait for his employer to finally release him, although the 49ers have no need to rush to a transaction. And while there've been plenty of players who have used social media as a ploy to get what they want, Aiyuk's latest actions may have derailed his chances of signing with Washington and joining forces with his old collegiate friend, quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Assuming they're still friends, of course. They may not be after yet another social media beef—one versus Daniels, his best ally in the nation's capital.

That might have been the death blow to Aiyuk's NFL career, considering the scuttlebutt around the league suggests the 2020 Round 1 draft pick has almost zero interest from other squads.

In short, it's "Commanders or bust" for Aiyuk, and Washington could ultimately throw the biggest twist into the ongoing drama with a simple statement.

Commanders could change everything by saying they don't want Brandon Aiyuk

Imagine this: Commanders general manager Adam Peters, who worked for the Niners back in 2020 when Aiyuk was drafted, is speaking to the media and is subsequently asked about his team's interest in the receiver.

Taking tampering into account, Peters' reply echoles along the line of, "If and when San Francisco releases Aiyuk, we wouldn't be interested. We're happy with the receivers we have."

Imagine that; Peters and the Commanders could change everything if they openly state they have zero interest in signing Aiyuk when he's made available. And while words and actions are two different things, especially in the NFL, such a statement would wholly throw off whatever hopes Aiyuk has for heading to Washington.

And that could make Aiyuk exceptionally desperate.

What if Commanders publicly say 'no' to Brandon Aiyuk?

It's almost impossible to predict what Aiyuk's sentiments would be if the Commanders turn down any opportunity to sign him. And if he knew that in advance before his inevitable release from San Francisco, would that even change his attitude toward his current employer?

It should. Recognizing his career is in jeopardy, Aiyuk would have to be awfully apologetic and do everything in his power to get back in the 49ers' good graces.

And that might be solely to campaign for a trade, at best. Anywhere. Because it's all but guaranteed he won't suit up for the Niners again, yet he could at least be cooperative.

However, given what fans, analysts and front offices have seen from him over the last few weeks, including publicly slandering Daniels, it sure appears as if being cooperative would be the last thing on Aiyuk's mind if Washington ultimately shuts the door on its perceived interest.

Wouldn't that be something?
