The San Francisco 49ers somehow managed to pull off an ugly and gritty Week 1 win against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Quarterback Brock Purdy did not have his best game, but he did continue his dominance against the Hawks on their home turf.
Since becoming the Niners' starting quarterback in 2022, Purdy is 4-0 at Lumen Field in Seattle. He has usually played very well there, so Sunday’s game was an exception, but he did enough at the end to get the job done.
Brock Purdy's going to do a lot of things in his career. But when we look back, I think starting his career 4-0 at Lumen Field -- and however far this streak goes -- is going to be a key part of what we remember.

Back in 2022, Purdy was a rookie and was filling in for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo, who was filling in for the injured Trey Lance. Purdy completed 17 of his 26 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns as San Francisco won 21-13. It was later revealed that Purdy played with a broken rib in that game, which made his performance all the more impressive.
In 2023, San Francisco visited Seattle on Thanksgiving and won yet again. In that game, Purdy completed 21 of his 30 passes for 209 yards while throwing one touchdown pass and one interception.
2024 was yet another win for Purdy and the Niners on enemy turf as they won 36-24. The former Iowa State signal-caller completed 18 of 28 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
Sunday’s game was probably Purdy’s worst in his young career in Seattle, although it was not completely horrible. He completed 26 of his 35 passes for 265 yards and two touchdown passes as well as two interceptions. The second of his interceptions was a bad one as he seemed to be forcing the ball down the field and trying to make something happen when nothing was there. It was the same sort of mistake he made too much last year and it is something he needs to fix. He may be a guy with a new contract, but that does not mean he has to try and win the game by himself with reckless play.
Nonetheless, Purdy deserves a ton of credit for coming up clutch when it mattered the most.

On San Francisco’s final drive, Purdy was absolutely on point as he hit wide receiver Ricky Pearsall on a long pass to get them into the red -zone. He paid it off with a touchdown pass to none other than tight end Jake Tonges, which may have had some luck involved, but the quarterback still made the play and put the ball where Tonges could get it.
It was not Purdy’s prettiest effort, but it was a continuation of his dominance in Seattle. San Francisco has largely had the Seahawks' number the last number of years after being owned by them for a while.
Purdy certainly has something to do with that turnaround.
