The 49ers listed Brock Purdy as questionable on their injury report versus the Seahawks on Thursday night, but the rookie will be active and will play.

It certainly didn’t seem so at the time, but rookie quarterback Brock Purdy suffered both a rib and oblique injury at some point during his shockingly impressive Week 14 outing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday.

Purdy’s first NFL start went about as well as anyone could have hoped, and beating future Hall of Famer Tom Brady in the process will be something the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft will never forget regardless of how the rest of his career pans out.

However, the next phase of that career involves his first primetime game against a division rival, the Seattle Seahawks, on Thursday Night Football.

The Niners listed Purdy as questionable on their Week 15 injury report, yet the initial signs all pointed toward him being able to go. On Thursday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter corroborated this by saying Purdy would start:

Even though San Francisco is down to its third starting quarterback of the season, it has to take comfort knowing Purdy will be out there and a fourth starter, Josh Johnson, won’t have to be deployed.

49ers vs. Seahawks: Week 15 inactives still include Jimmy Garoppolo

The one reason why Purdy went from Mr. Irrelevant to very much relevant is the veteran quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, who suffered a foot injury in Week 13, leading to Purdy getting the call.

The 49ers are being cautious with their injured-reserve designations, and that means Garoppolo will likely hang out on the weekly inactive list in the meantime, and that’s where he is for Thursday night’s contest against the Hawks.

These players won’t dress for the Niners on Thursday Night Football and are inactive:

  • QB Jimmy Garoppolo
  • WR Deebo Samuel
  • DT Kevin Givens
  • DB Tarvarius Moore
  • DB Samuel Womack
  • LB Curtis Robinson
  • OL Nick Zakelj

Samuel, who appeared to suffer a serious injury against the Bucs last Sunday, might return in only a few weeks despite injuring both his ankle and knee. Yet he’ll be out regardless against Seattle, though.

The 49ers and Seahawks kick off their Thursday Night Football contest on Dec. 15 at 8:15 p.m. ET from Lumen Field.
