Brock Purdy immediately apologized after 'dumb' move against Titans

Purdy is just too humble to let it slide.

The San Francisco 49ers won comfortably over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday behind a very solid performance from quarterback Brock Purdy.

However, Purdy apologized for something he did on the field he characterized as "dumb."

Purdy scrambled for a long 26-yard run during the game, and before he jumped out of bounds he did a pump fake with the ball at linebacker Cody Barton's face. Right after he did it, he went over to Barton and gave him a pat on the helmet with a smile on his face, which seemed to suggest he was apologizing for what he had done and he said as much after the game:

Purdy was asked about the play after the game and said the following: "Honestly, I thought it was dumb — the whole ball fake at the end. I was like, 'Bro, what did I just do?'"

He went on to say that he has a lot of respect for Barton as a player and clearly seemed to feel bad for what he did, even though it was pretty minor. Purdy obviously did not want Barton or the Titans to think he was trying to show them up or toy with Barton.

However, we have seen that the typically humble Purdy can flash a different side of himself on the field. Against the Cleveland Browns, the typically reserved signal caller broke out his own rendition of the Dougie.

It seems when he does something good on the field it can bring out a more playful and cocky version of Purdy, which is fun to see. Yet, the quarterback even got a compliment from the Browns' Myles Garrett after that game, so it does not seem like he rubs opponents the wrong way even if he has a little fun sometimes.

Purdy had probably his best game of the season on Sunday as he threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions while completing 23 of his 30 pass attempts.

He looked sharp against an, admittedly, not very strong Titans defense, but that is the version of Purdy the 49ers are going to need to show up the final three weeks of the season as they look to make the playoffs.

We have seen the flip side of that coin earlier this season when Purdy threw three interceptions against the Carolina Panthers, so we know it can go the other way.

But if Purdy is at his best, the Niners have a chance to make a run in the playoffs.
