Brandon Aiyuk has officially made it impossible for 49ers to recoup their losses

San Francisco 49ers' wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has seen his career go into a tailspin since his torn ACL two seasons ago.

From refusing to participate in team activities to posting unfiltered, incoherent rants on social media, the pass catcher has managed to pigeonhole his team in a place that no franchise wants to be in. What started out as a situation where San Francisco held all the cards might have completely turned on its head in recent days.

All throughout the saga, there have been talks of the Niners waiting for the opportune time to trade Aiyuk when the moment presented itself. Recent comments by ESPN insider Adam Schefter, however, may deem that to be an unrealistic goal.

"What I think happens here, I would imagine when the 49ers get back and reconvene for training camp, right around then I would think they will wind up releasing Brandon Aiyuk. Just flat out cutting him," the analyst said.

Schefter also explained how the receiver's social media tirade has completely scared teams away to the point where they have questioned his sanity. Even the Washington Commanders, the team Aiyuk desperately wants to be traded to, has shied away and has neglected to show any trade interest.

49ers will be left with zero return on investment

If and when the 49ers release Aiyuk, he will have finished his time in San Francisco, having played just seven games and caught 25 passes post contract extension. The team has long since cut his funding, but not before he managed to swindle $48.125 million from the franchise.

An inevitable release will mean all that money down the drain with no potential return.

It seems, as of now, that Aiyuk's prolonged temper tantrum is leading to more than one casualty. He is intent on bringing his once-beloved team down with him amid his rants and mental degradation.

Once released, the real story will be whether or not a team will dare to take a chance on him. According to Schefter, that outcome may be unlikely. Any player who is actively posting chants in favor of another team is someone probably worth steering clear of. Even the Commanders are unlikely to take a chance. Taking on such a distraction could prove too high a risk, especially while they are in the middle of grooming their young, promising quarterback, Jayden Daniels.

Much of the 49ers team (and fanbase) would surely love to move on from the situation, but until a move is made by general manager John Lynch and the rest of the San Francisco front office, everyone will be forced to sit and watch the side show that has plagued much of the last calendar year.
