For some time now, it's been a safe bet wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has played his last snap with the San Francisco 49ers.
It was just two years ago when the talented pass catcher signed a four-year, $140 million extension with the Niners and was viewed to be a key cog in the offense moving forward. Aiyuk, however, had other ideas. A string of catastrophic events over the past two years has led to a complete demolition of the relationship between the two parties.
This week, however, the receiver may have hit rock bottom.
Last Wednesday, a warrant was issued for Aiyuk's arrest for a 2025 video he posted of himself driving at speeds over 100 miles per hour past Levi's Stadium. Instead of turning himself in for the traffic violation, the receiver took to social media. He posted a picture in a Washington Commanders hat, supposedly his desired next destination.
Then, he posted a video of himself going on a tirade against the entire San Francisco franchise:
"A** boy. Little a** boy... They gonna say 'Oh yeah, BA did this, BA did that. But what they not going to say is BA suck at football because they know how I get. And they running from that bell that's on the way. It's inevitable. Stop running. Stop being a female dog... Stop running from the belt," were just some of the choice words he had for his organization.
Brandon Aiyuk can't get out of his own way
All this stems from the brutal injury he suffered during the 2024 season, where he tore both his ACL and MCL in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He began the following season on the PUP list, and the relationship between the parties eroded fast.
Aiyuk began to inexplicably ghost the franchise. He neglected to return any contact from coach Kyle Shanahan and the rest of the staff. After a while, San Francisco decided to void his $27 million in guaranteed money.
The decision resulted in a complete withdrawal by Aiyuk. He missed meetings and other team activities, having completely given up on trying to mend the relationship.
Now, the once-coveted wideout is at the complete mercy of his employer. With no financial reason to release him, the 49ers have elected to keep him in limbo until a better, more beneficial opportunity presents itself.
San Francisco may not be the only city Brandon Aiyuk talked his way out of
It's clear Aiyuk will never wear red and gold again. His picture with a Commanders hat on clearly tells fans that he wishes to join his former college teammate, Jayden Daniels, but why would the Commanders want him?
Through this ordeal, Aiyuk has demonstrated more than just frustration about his current team. He has revealed his true colors and presented himself as a spiteful individual who is willing to break the law, call his team names, and throw temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way. He has exemplified "diva" in every sense of the word. He has presented himself to be such a distraction that nobody in their right mind would believe him to be capable of fitting into a team atmosphere again.
Now, in true delusional fashion, he fully expects another NFL franchise to come knocking.
So far, nothing of the sort has happened, and it would be unsurprising if he has not only played his last game in the Bay, but his last game in the NFL as well.
