Still-San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been the center of plenty of attention throughout the offseason, largely surrounding how the Niners go about parting ways with the disgruntled pass catcher.
Unfortunately, there appears to be more negative news heading in his direction.
According to a Wednesday report from the New York Post's Edward Lewis, an arrest warrant has been issued for Aiyuk in Santa Clara County, citing a "misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speed."
Diving further into the report, it appears as if the warrant stems from an earlier incident when Aiyuk was driving over 100 miles per hour past Levi's Stadium—an action he shared on social media at the height of his standoff with the Niners.
Here's what Lewis had to say with regard to the subsequent investigation into the receiver's actions:
Despite his public remorse, the Santa Clara Police Department launched an investigation into the video and ultimately forwarded the case to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office on Jan. 15.
A message seeking comment from a representative for Aiyuk was not immediately returned.
Aiyuk later apologized for the action, but it seems as if any repercussions from the excessive speeding won't simply go away.
Adding another wrinkle is the fact Aiyuk has been difficult to get a hold of, both from San Francisco's vantage point and reportedly from other teams, too, which was reported earlier this offseason by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Unfortunately, should the latest allegations and arrest warrant result in further actions, Aiyuk's situation won't get any less complicated over the duration of the summer.
