This has been a brutal offseason for the San Francisco 49ers. Not only have they seen a ton of players depart in free agency whether that's been due to being released, traded, or signing with another team but they haven't been able to make the splashy signings they need to be competitive.

The latest blow to the 49ers' free agency plans includes Joey Bosa opting not to join his brother Nick in San Francisco and to sign with the Buffalo Bills instead. Bosa signed a one-year deal with the Bills worth $12.6 million further frustrating Niners fans.

49ers miss out on Joey Bosa in free agency

Some Niners fans might have thought that the release of Leonard Floyd opened things up more for the 49ers to make a Bosa deal happen but that clearly wasn't the case. This is disappointing too considering there were reports that the talks between Bosa and the 49ers had been going well.

Alas, it wasn't meant to be. It doesn't matter that the 49ers could have had both Bosa brothers on their roster in what would have been a really fun story to follow. It doesn't matter that the 49ers have been clearing space to potentially bring the older Bosa brother in. It doesn't matter that the 49ers could have had one of the more thrilling pass rushes in the league had both Bosas been on the team. It's officially not happening, at least not this year.

With this only being a one-year deal, perhaps the 49ers can throw their hat into the ring for Bosa next year if he hits the free-agent market again. For now though, it's understandable if 49er fans are agitated with the team for not getting this deal done.

It's been a rough offseason for this team and it truly does feel like their Super Bowl window has slammed shut.
