49ers injury report vs. Bears: Niners winless without Nick Bosa, Trent Williams

The Niners could again be without two of their best star players in Week 14 against the Bears, Nick Bosa and Trent Williams.

San Francisco's record in such cases is, well... not good.

The 49ers haven't won a game without both Nick Bosa and Trent Williams, and that might be the case again in Week 14.

By now, fans have grown more than just accustomed to the likelihood of the San Francisco 49ers missing more than just a few key pieces during any given week because of injuries.

If anything, it's become a weekly ritual to name off three or four star players who won't be available on gameday.

In recent weeks, the Niners have missed both defensive end Nick Bosa and left tackle Trent Williams, the former dealing with a hip/oblique injury aggravated to the extreme back in Week 11, while the latter is suffering from an ankle injury while also mourning the tragic loss of twins because of complications during his wife's pregnancy.

San Francisco has not handled their respective absences well, going 0-2 since both players were unavailable back in Week 12's loss to the Green Bay Packers, subsequently losing the following week to the Buffalo Bills, too.

If anything, the 49ers haven't handled a combined Bosa-Williams absence well at all.

Like, ever.

49ers are winless when both Trent Williams and Nick Bosa are out of the lineup

Dating back to 2020, the Niners are a combined 0-5 when both Bosa and Williams are out of the game, something pointed out by the San Francisco Chronicle's Eric Branch in light of San Francisco's final injury report ahead of Week 14's game against the visiting Chicago Bears:

Indeed, the 49ers defense has looked almost entirely impotent since Bosa departed Week 11's game against the Seattle Seahawks, which marked the Niners' NFC West rivals' turnaround in that game.

While the offensive line has somewhat mitigated Williams'' absence, his presence is still a massive boost for quarterback Brock Purdy and Co.

Unfortunately, it's looking as if both All-Pro players will again miss a Sunday.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan hinted at the remote chance of Bosa playing in Friday's press conference, but the sensation is the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year will miss his third consecutive game.

However, there is some positive news with San Francisco opening practice windows for two of its well-known stars, Hufanga and Greenlaw, the latter not having taken the field since tearing his Achilles in the Super Bowl last February.

Greenlaw likely waits until Week 15 against the Los Angeles Rams, though, giving him another week to rehabilitate, while Hufanga has appeared in only two games this season.

The 49ers and Bears kick off on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 4:25 p.m. ET from Levi's Stadium.
