Alfred Collins is a huge specimen, and he can immediately plug a glaring gap up front in the 49ers' defensive line.
The San Francisco 49ers were able to take full advantage of the yearly cliché -- let the draft come to you -- when they were on the clock for the first time in Round 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sure, the Niners may have been interested in trading up from No. 43 following their day-one selection of defensive end Mykel Williams, potentially to select a defensive back or offensive lineman.
But, after several other prior-drafting teams moved around the board for positions that weren't exactly priorities for San Francisco, general manager John Lynch essentially had a gifted pick in hand without having to move up.
With plenty of Round 1-caliber talent still available with the 43rd pick, the 49ers ultimately opted to reinforce their D-line again.

Lynch hinted after Round 1 he'd go after more defensive linemen in subsequent rounds, and that's precisely what the Niners did with their top day-two pick.
While it would have made sense to address other spots, San Francisco passed on those options and grabbed Texas defensive tackle Alfred Collins, a player who received comparables to the Kansas City Chiefs' Chris Jones from ESPN's Booger McFarland during the draft coverage.
At 6-foot-6 and 332 pounds, Collins is an immovable object who can play a variety of spots, likely being tasked with a day-one run stuffer who can hone his pass-rushing skills a bit more to become a true three-down player.
Plus, that wingspan is something that'll entice defensive line coach Kris Kocurek.
The 49ers let Maliek Collins and Javon Hargrave go earlier this offseason, restocking the cupboard with two promising rookies who can make an impact right away.
