In the months leading up to the 2026 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers will be pouring over the tape of top college prospects in search of players to help fill out their roster.
San Francisco clearly needs help along the defensive line in the offseason, whether it comes through free agency or the draft. Even when Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams return from injury, the Niners lack the necessary depth at edge defender. With Bryce Huff's future with the team in doubt, it would be wise to add to the position group.
Alabama prospect LT Overton could step in as an immediate contributor for the 49ers.

LT Overton NFL player comparison: Lukas Van Ness
Van Ness was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the 13th overall pick back in 2023. While it would be surprising to see Overton come off the board that early, the two share some similarities. Both players win with their large frames and powerful hands. Van Ness has been disappointing as a pass-rusher with the Packers, but his recent growth as a run defender has made him a valuable player. Without a clear path to becoming more of a threat on passing downs, his ceiling in the NFL is limited.
LT Overton NFL Draft grade: 2nd round
Overton will immediately come into the league as a capable run defender. His large frame and ability to anchor will make him a valuable player on early downs. He needs some work as a pass-rusher, though. He may not have the explosiveness and flexibility to become a consistent double-digit sack rusher in the NFL, but some development in his technique and pass-rush plan could make him a three-down starter for a good defense.
