49ers NFL Draft trade No. 3: Move assets for 2024 picks

As stated earlier, the 49ers have 11 total picks at their disposal this year despite not having one in either of the first two rounds.

But, considering there aren’t 11 holes on the roster, John Lynch would be wise to consider stockpiling picks down the road in future years at a point when the Niners are dealing with an increasingly expensive roster in the wake of stars like Deebo Samuel, EDGE Nick Bosa, tight end George Kittle and left tackle Trent Williams commanding heftier paydays.

The Miami Dolphins have only four picks in this year’s draft, yet a team like the Niners can hope they are willing to shell out some future capital in the mold of a second-round pick to San Francisco for two of its comp selections at the end of Round 3, plus a fifth-round pick to sweeten the deal for head coach Mike McDaniel, a former 49ers coach himself.

While Miami might not bite, the idea is sound: If the Niners don’t need the pick because no holes on the roster exist, and they can move it for future assets, why hesitate?
