49ers NFL Draft trade No. 2: Less-aggressive trade-up into Round 2

It just doesn’t seem feasible for John Lynch to trade away first-round picks for three consecutive years, so the deal with Cincy is probably off the table.

That said, there’ll be plenty of first-round talent available throughout much of the second round, and it just so happens the 49ers have a new friend with the Tennessee Titans, general manager Ran Carthon, who left this offseason from a front office job with the Niners.

Tennessee is going through a restructuring, of sorts, with Carthon now at the helm. Armed with only six picks, Carthon might not mind trading down to stockpile more ammunition in order to land some cheaper commodities.

For San Francisco, the move would be more about finding quality over quantity, as it’s likely looking at only two or three players who’d help win a Super Bowl rather than a large-scale retooling of the roster.

Those three Round 3 selections, plus a 2024 second-rounder in exchange for the Titans’ second-round pick, No. 41 overall, seem to do.
