The 49ers are going to be without selections over the first two rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft, but they are armed with plenty of picks on day three.

If you’re a diehard San Francisco 49ers fan and don’t care what 31 other teams are going to do during the opening round of the 2023 NFL Draft, you might as well turn off the television and stop your streaming devices on Thursday, April 27.

While we’re at it, you can probably tune out Round 2, too.

The Niners don’t have picks in the first two rounds of the 2023 draft, thanks to both the 2021 trade-up to grab quarterback Trey Lance and last year’s midseason trade for running back Christian McCaffrey.

In fact, general manager John Lynch and Co. aren’t scheduled to start selecting until the very end of Round 3 where San Francisco currently holds three compensatory picks.

Those three picks will effectively close out day two of the draft. But, armed with eight remaining picks spread out between Rounds 4 and 7, the 49ers will be awfully busy on day three of the 2023 NFL Draft.

49ers have 8 picks on Day 3 of 2023 NFL Draft, and here they are

Lynch and his staff will be awfully quiet in Round 1, and they probably won’t start looking at the phones until the middle of Round 2. Things will get busy at the end of Round 3, but it won’t be until the third and final day of the draft when the Niners start bringing in the prospects.

Here’s the full list of picks San Francisco currently owns for Saturday, April 29 when Rounds 4 through 7 take place:

  • Round 5, No. 155 overall (from Dolphins)
  • Round 5, No. 164 overall
  • Round 5, No. 173 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 6, No. 216 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 7, No. 22 overall (from Broncos)
  • Round 7, No. 247 overall
  • Round 7, No. 253 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 7, No. 255 overall (compensatory)

The fifth-round pick was generated from last year’s trade of running back Jeff Wilson Jr. to Miami, while all but three others are compensatory, just like the three in Round 3.

Lots of threes. No coincidence, right?

The 2023 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 27, while day three of the draft will begin on Saturday, April 29.
