Former 49ers kicker Robbie Gould remains unsigned

Despite being one of the oldest players in the entire NFL, veteran kicker Robbie Gould announced his intention to keep playing.

Just not with the Niners.

Granted, the two sides have been at odds before, including an awkward standoff prior to the 2019 season that resulted in a franchise tag, then an extension.

Interestingly enough, The Athletic’s Matt Barrows told KNBR 680 that he thinks both Gould and San Francisco could mend a relationship and come together once more in 2023:

"They’ve already shown when they did this dance in 2019, that they were willing to pay big bucks for a guy who they thought was going to make big kicks in the playoffs. And that’s exactly what Robbie Gould is and what he’s done. And so I think it’s a better than 50-50 chance that he’s back. That’s just my call. I don’t know any secret sauce, but that’s my guess."

Perhaps Gould was hoping the Chicago Bears would come calling and offer him a deal, but it hasn’t happened.

Maybe the 49ers will once more.
