Former 49ers defensive end Kerry Hyder remains unsigned

In 2020, the Niners turned depth defensive end Kerry Hyder into their top sack-getter in an otherwise forgettable season, and Hyder turned in a career-best 8.5 sacks under the tutelage of defensive line coach Kris Kocurek.

After spending 2021 with the Seattle Seahawks, Hyder’s return to San Francisco last year wasn’t exactly exemplary, and he finished 2022 with just 19 tackles, one sack and four quarterback hits.

Would teams trip over themselves for that kind of production? Probably not.

That said, Hyder’s versatility and flexibility do provide some value, and it’s a little weird that he hasn’t commanded some modest interest from teams looking to shore up their defensive line depth.

Perhaps the 49ers want to do that, too, but they’d rather be patient and wait out whatever market Hyder has coming his way.
