49ers NFL Scouting Combine: RB Christian McCaffrey (2017)

While George Kittle was something of a late-round gem, putting it lightly, Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey was seen as a bona fide Round 1 talent.

Some felt the Niners could have drafted him at No. 3 overall that year.

They didn’t, but McCaffrey’s NFL Scouting Combine numbers were impressive nonetheless:

  • 40-yard dash: 4.48 seconds
  • 60-yard shuttle: 11.03 seconds
  • Vertical jump: 37.5 inches
  • Broad jump: 10 feet, 1 inch
  • 3-cone drill: 6.57 seconds
  • 20-yard shuttle: 4.22 seconds

McCaffrey ultimately ended up being selected by the Carolina Panthers at No. 8 overall, and he’s currently one of only three players to record 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in the same season, joining Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk and San Francisco’s own legend, Roger Craig, in that exclusive group.
