49ers NFL Scouting Combine: TE George Kittle (2017)

The NFL Draft is proof that selecting elite-level prospects is nothing but a craps shoot, and All-Pro tight end George Kittle epitomizes that.

Grabbed by San Francisco in Round 5 out of Iowa, Kittle ended up setting records his rookie season by boasting the most catches (43) and receiving yards (515) for anyone drafted in Round 5, or later, during the modern football era.

Since then, Kittle has emerged as a household name across all league circles.

Why didn’t we see that coming, though?

  • 40-yard dash: 4.52 seconds
  • Vertical jump: 35 inches
  • Broad jump: 11 feet
  • Bench reps: 18

In actuality, his NFL Combine workouts were pretty good, particularly for a bigger-bodied tight end.

Yet Kittle’s collegiate production was lacking in Iowa’s run-heavy offense.

Good thing for the 49ers, right?
