49ers NFL Scouting Combine: QB Jimmy Garoppolo (2014)

While the league has been trending toward more athletic quarterbacks, there are still plenty of signal-callers out there who aren’t overly athletic but still offer plenty of upside to a team in search of someone under center.

49ers fans know well what kind of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is, but the reputation of being a winner didn’t exactly happen right away.

Based on his NFL Combine workouts, it might have been hard to predict:

  • 40-yard dash: 4.97 seconds
  • Vertical jump: 30.5 inches
  • Broad jump: 9 feet, 2 inches
  • 3-cone drill: 7.04 seconds
  • 20-yard shuttle: 4.26 seconds

Garoppolo ultimately slipped into the end of Round 2 where he was grabbed by the New England Patriots.

Initially thought to be quarterback Tom Brady’s successor, as fans may recall, the Pats traded Jimmy G to the Niners halfway through the 2017 season.
