The 49ers aren’t playing in Super Bowl 57, but that won’t stop The Faithful from watching the big game that’ll wrap up a memorable NFL season.

“Next year,” will be what many a San Francisco 49ers fan will say when it comes to seeking out that elusive sixth Lombardi Trophy.

Alas, the Niners won’t be competing in Super Bowl 57 despite boasting one of the best rosters in the NFL over the course of 2022 and finishing with a notable 13-4 record during the regular season.

Despite two postseason victories over the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys, head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad ultimately fell short in the NFC Championship game, losing by a lopsided score of 31-7 to the Philadelphia Eagles in a contest that was defined more by a serious elbow injury to quarterback Brock Purdy (followed by a slew of ghastly penalties) than anything else.

That said, there’s still a Super Bowl to be played.

Whether or not San Francisco fans will have a rooting interest, though, is yet to be decided.

Who is playing in Super Bowl 57?

After defeating the 49ers in the NFC Championship game, the Eagles will represent the NFC in Super Bowl 57 after finishing with the conference’s No. 1 seed and boasting a 14-3 record during the regular season.

The Kansas City Chiefs, meanwhile, will represent the AFC after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals in their conference championship.

For KC, it’ll be the third Super Bowl appearance in four years, and Niners fans unfortunately must recall how quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs upended San Francisco in the Super Bowl back in February of 2020.
