The tragic events that unfolded on Monday night with Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin have brought the NFL and sports worlds together, and nowhere is that more evident than with the outpouring of support Hamlin’s toy drive foundation has received.
Hamlin set up a GoFundMe page for a toy drive foundation back in 2020 with an initial goal of $2,500. He reached his goal and the total amount raised sat just under $3,000 prior to Monday night.
Following the tragedy that took place on Monday Night Football, over $4.5 million has now been raised for Hamlin’s foundation, at the time of writing. Multiple San Francisco 49ers players made sure to do their part as well.
One look at the list of “top donors” on Hamlin’s GoFundMe page will show that the likes of quarterback Trey Lance, running back Christian McCaffrey, and tight end George Kittle all donated at least $1,000 to Hamlin’s foundation.
Former 49ers defensive lineman Solomon Thomas, now playing for the New York Jets, was also included on the list of top donors, as was former 49ers quarterback Brian Hoyer.
It’s incredible to see the NFL community come together in a time like this and it speaks volumes that the individuals listed above are doing what they can to support Hamlin and this cause.
49ers players continue to show support for Damar Hamlin
Numerous 49ers players took to Twitter last night to send their thoughts and prayers to Hamlin and his family. The likes of Deebo Samuel, Deommodore Lenoir, and many others expressed remorse while hoping for the best.
Hamlin’s family released a statement on Tuesday thanking everyone for the overwhelming amount of support they have received while urging anyone who wants to help to donate to this foundation.
"“If you would like to show your support and contribute to Damar’s community initiatives and his current fight, this is the place to do so. This is the only current fund that is being used by the Hamlin Family. Again, thank you for your thoughts, prayers and generous support during this time.”"
