49ers dud: Tight end George Kittle

It feels slightly out of touch to place tight end George Kittle on the Week 5 duds list, but we can admit it wasn’t exactly his best game.

True, given the depth shortages on the Niners offensive line, Kittle has been asked to assist with some blocking duties up front, and that might help explain why he’s been notably absent from San Francisco’s offensive stat sheet the last few weeks.

However, the 49ers looked to get Kittle involved early during the game, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo made early strides to get him the ball.

On one such play, though, Kittle uncharacteristically fumbled, and Carolina recovered. Only the fact the Panthers ended up settling for a field goal they ultimately missed helped alleviate Kittle from any further blame.

Kittle, who ended the game with five catches for 47 yards, had only one reception for 5 yards after that particular gaffe.
