No. 3: 49ers assistant quarterbacks coach Klay Kubiak

One of the Niners’ surprising moves of the offseason was to hire former NFL quarterback turned ESPN analyst Brian Griese to become the team’s quarterbacks coach and work closely with second-year pro Trey Lance.

Griese likely isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but his primary assistant, Klay Kubiak, could be popping up on other teams’ radars if Lance winds up developing nicely this season.

Kubiak, son of longtime NFL head coach Gary Kubiak and the brother of current Vikings offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, has football in his DNA. And more often than not, teams seek out this kind of bloodline when exploring coaching options.

Granted, Klay Kubiak’s pro-level experience is notably limited, him having served only one year in the NFL with San Francisco a year ago after being an offensive coordinator and then head coach at Strake Jesuit College Prep in Houston, Texas.

But, depending on the body of work Lance puts in over the course of 2022, teams may view the 32-year-old Kubiak as a potential fit for a promotion of sorts to a full-time quarterbacks coach.
