No. 2: 49ers passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik

Unlike Klay Kubiak, the 49ers’ pass game coordinator Bobby Slowik isn’t hurting for practical NFL experience, having broken into the league back with the Washington Commanders in 2011 as a films assistant in 2010 and then becoming a defensive assistant the following year.

Slowik has been part of Kyle Shanahan’s staff since 2017, making the switch over to the offensive side of the ball in 2021 when the Jets took away the Niners’ previous passing game coordinator, Mike LaFleur.

Again, going back to Trey Lance’s development, should San Francisco’s offense take off to levels not seen by a Shanahan team since 2017, that’ll certainly help Slowik’s chances to land some consideration.

Perhaps not as a head coach right away but potentially as an offensive coordinator somewhere.

Plus, that defensive understanding might actually give Slowik a better reputation for knowing how to pick apart defenses, and one might credit his collegiate laurels at Michigan Tech University where he played wide receiver.

Now, the 49ers do have a vacancy with their offensive coordinator spot, a job Shanahan will look to do again after relinquishing it to Mike McDaniel a year ago, but Slowik might elude an in-team promotion anyway.
