49ers news: Deebo Samuel won’t go to Jets in NFL Draft
By Peter Panacy
The Jets were reportedly hot on the market for 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, but if it was going to take a Round 1 NFL Draft pick, it won’t happen now.
San Francisco 49ers fans who were worried about All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel winding up in MetLife Stadium this season as a member of the New York Jets probably just breathed a sigh of relief on the opening night of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Armed with two picks in the top 10, Nos. 4 and 10 overall, Gang Green was one of a number of different squads out there with enough ammunition to make a “can’t refuse” deal for the Niners’ best offensive weapon, who is disgruntled with his situation in the Bay Area and wants out.
Plus, there was the thinking New York’s head coach Robert Saleh and his offensive coordinator, Mike McDaniel, could use their prior relationship with both Samuel and San Francisco as a means to be a better trade partner.
Well, no dice there.
Jets unable to trade for 49ers WR Deebo Samuel
In the days and hours counting down to the NFL Draft, multiple reports stated the Jets were one of a number of teams calling the 49ers about Samuel’s availability. And while the Jets might not have been willing to part ways with the fourth overall pick, the No. 10 pick sure seemed like the starting point of what would have been a lucrative trade package back to the Niners.
However, many of those subsequent reports stated San Francisco was refusing to budge on trade requests despite fielding offers.

With the fourth pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, New York grabbed Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, who was widely viewed as the top at his position this year.
Yet the bigger question was what might happen at No. 10 overall, as that was reportedly the pick offered to the 49ers for Samuel.
Well, either the Niners continued their refusal or the Jets ultimately made their contingency move, grabbing Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson instead.
Samuel remains on San Francisco’s roster… for now.
