49ers big-name free-agent target No. 2: Tight end Rob Gronkowski

At 32 years old, tight end Rob Gronkowski has plenty left to offer.

Yes, the 49ers have an elite tight end with All-Pro George Kittle, but there is plenty of upside to this signing if they can come to terms on an asking price.

For starters, a two-tight end set with Kittle and Gronk on the same field would be an absolute nightmare for any opposing defense in the league. Not to mention there are few linebackers who can keep up with the likes of either of them.

Second, what better way is there to keep your starting quarterback safe than to increase the amount of blockers on the field? This will give Trey Lance ample time to check through his progressions, limiting impulsive throws, or it will give him more of a lane for a tuck and run if coverage is tight.

The more options your quarterback has, the greater his chances are for success.

Finally, if head coach Kyle Shanahan decides to alternate them every so often, fresh legs will be a constant for both players. An offense with the likes of these two always fresh is a scary thought.
