49ers Dud: Cornerback Josh Norman

After a recent hot streak that seemed to erase the bulk of concerns he was the 49ers’ biggest liability within their secondary, veteran cornerback Josh Norman is back into the “non-favorite” category among the fanbase after what transpired in Week 13.

From an initial count, as the official number will come out later, Norman was responsible for giving up three catches for 26 yards, one of them being a Russell Wilson 12-yard touchdown to wide receiver Tyler Lockett late in the third quarter to cap off Seattle’s scoring for the day.

Turns out, that was the winning score.

Norman might have avoided being flagged for defensive pass interference during the game, which is still a plus. But his lack of speed and inability to stick with speedier, shiftier receivers is going to be a problem for the rest of the year.

Unfortunately for the Niners, they still don’t have an adequate fill-in cornerback who can step up and improve the situation over Norman, meaning he’ll likely be a target for opposing quarterbacks for the rest of the year.

Hoping to beat him or at least draw DPI.
