49ers Stud: Defensive Tackle D.J. Jones

The 49ers defensive line, for the most part, enjoyed a quality game with four sacks on Russell Wilson, and EDGEs Nick Bosa, Jordan Willis and Arden Key each tallied quarterback takedowns.

Defensive tackle D.J. Jones didn’t get one of those, but one could make the argument he was the biggest Niners X-factor down within the trenches on the defensive side of the ball.

In short, Jones was a massive playmaker, recording seven total tackles, two of which were for a loss, while also forcing a fumble in the process.

While he’s primarily used as just a 1-technique nose tackle in run-stopping situations, Jones has shown he can do so much more as long as he’s healthy and on the field. A free agent in 2022, San Francisco nevertheless has a challenging decision regarding his future.

Sure, players like Bosa and defensive tackle Arik Armstead will garner a lot more attention and praise.

But Jones has been another one of those unsung heroes this season, just like Azeez Al-Shaair.
