49ers Dud: Right Tackle Tom Compton
There might only be one play where fill-in right tackle Tom Compton looked awful.
But, wow. It was truly awful.
Compton, filling in at the spot because of the season-ending quad injury suffered by the starter, Mike McGlinchey, had already allowed two sacks this season. And while the 49ers surrendered just one sack on Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13, it was a massive one:
K’Waun Williams made a clutch play with an interception the drive before. But it did set up a situation where Seattle could pin its pass-rushing ears back on an attempt to get to Garoppolo.
And that’s precisely what Seahawks defensive tackle Carlos Dunlap did, blowing over Compton in easy fashion to record the safety.
One could make the argument that totally shifted all momentum in the Hawks’ favor, and the Niners weren’t able to muster much of anything thereafter.
Offensive line depth is still a problem for San Francisco.
