3 players 49ers should watch from CFL’s Tiger-Cats
Here are three players San Francisco 49ers fans and scouts should look out for from the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The NFL San Francisco 49ers and CFL Hamilton Tiger-Cats might not have a lot in common, but the one common denominator they share is neither has won a championship since the 1990s. Both have played in their respectful championship games since then, but neither could get it done.
However, they have what it takes to break the curse, and the Niners could find some help from Canada’s most southern team.
With Labour Day weekend in the rearview mirror, the focus for the CFL turns to the stretch run. This year it’s a sprint to the playoffs as there are only 14 games on the schedule.
The CFL East Division is similar to the NFC East. Some team has to win the division, some team has to finish second, and in the CFL, there’s usually a crossover team from the West.
In 2019, Hamilton ran away with the division title and even finished with the best record in the CFL. They represented the East in the Grey Cup but ultimately flopped to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
This year at 2-2, they’re still the team to beat.
The last time we looked at three players from the Saskatchewan Roughriders whom the 49ers should be keeping their eye on. In a lopsided loss, linebacker Micah Teitz collected two tackles, while receiver Kyran Moore had 10 catches for 79 yards and one punt return for 16 yards, and kick returner Marcus Murphy skipped the Labour Day Classic with a toe injury.
This time, the focus shifts to the Tiger-Cats where they have some pretty solid talent sprinkled throughout their lineup, starting with the man they call “Speedy B” Brandon Banks.
