49ers roster: 3 cheap free-agent wide receivers who can still help

49ers Target No. 1: Golden Tate
Both Dede Westbrook and Laquon Treadwell would be something of reclamation projects if the 49ers were to sign either.
Yet if the Niners wanted to add a savvy veteran who has had a long history of being productive, they could do worse than go after soon-to-be 33-year-old veteran wideout Golden Tate.

Tate, the former second-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks way back in 2010, has made his way around the NFC over the years, including the last two years with the New York Giants where he had a combined 84 catches for 1,064 yards and eight touchdowns during that timeframe. And while Tate’s 2020 numbers weren’t particularly great, one has to accept that was in the context of a wholly awful G-Men offense.
His entire body of work — 8,278 receiving yards and 46 touchdowns over 160 games played — should probably be taken into account instead.
At this point in his career, Tate is probably looking to sign with a contender, and he’d have a pretty well-defined role on a San Francisco offense that doesn’t necessarily need him to be a starter, rather a quality veteran capable of both netting those two or three key receptions per game while also mentoring a predominantly young receiving corps.
Tate can be picky. But one has to figure he’d be intrigued with playing in an offensive system the 49ers would have to offer.
