49ers NFL Draft: Power ranking quarterback options with No. 3 pick
1
Justin Fields Quarterback
Talk about star-power. Ohio State’s Justin Fields is my hands-down first choice for San Francisco at No. 3, and I think a lot of Niners fans feel the same way.
Fields is one of the best quarterback prospects of the last five years, and I don’t think it’s close. He has done nothing but turn heads since he was a high school star in Georgia, and I don’t see that changing once he enters the NFL.

I mean, how can you not want Fields dawning the red and gold? In his two years as a starter at Ohio State, he’s been otherworldly with a combined stat line of 5,373 yards, 63 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 22 total games. As I typed out those stats, I’m still in awe of them, and I’ve been studying Fields closely for about two years now. I almost forgot, he also rushed for 15 touchdowns in those two years and was clocked running a 4.40 40-yard dash at his pro-day.
Someone let me know in the comments section if that’s fast for a quarterback.
The Ohio State star is the literal definition of what it means to be a modern-day signal-caller in today’s NFL. He has the perfect balance of size, athleticism, arm strength and accuracy. There’s literally nothing he can’t do, and I think with Fields in the 49ers system, the team would be set up to win multiple Super Bowls as long as Kyle Shanahan is calling the shots.
I also think the New York Jets are out of their minds for potentially skipping on Fields, but let’s hope they don’t smarten up between now and draft time.
The crazy part is Fields will almost certainly be available at the third overall pick, and the 49ers would be absolutely out of their minds to pass on him for any of the guys I’ve listed below him. The truth is I do think this is the pick the Niners front office will make, or so I hope.
Shanahan, if you’re reading this, don’t let us down. Draft the guy who will propel this team into the stratosphere and pick Justin Fields.
