NFL Draft Pick No. 19: Jackson Carman, Offensive Tackle, Clemson

Arguably the biggest boom-or-bust prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft, Clemson’s Jackson Carman is the Mekhi Becton of this draft class: a big 340-pound tackle, who could potentially be a franchise left tackle or out of the league in three years.

For Washington, trading disgruntled left tackle Trent Williams to the 49ers solved one headache, but it hasn’t solved the issue of replacing him.

Carman has the versatility to play either tackle position or even shift inside to guard and his 6-foot-5, 345-pound frame is surprisingly athletic. He’s hard for defensive linemen to move due to his size, although he’s sometimes guilty of replying on his size over technique that allows him to get beaten.

Carman will need to develop his technique more for the NFL, but there’s no doubting he’s a franchise left tackle if he can put his physical skills together.
