Would the 49ers trade Jimmy Garoppolo not long after their blockbuster draft trade? Who knows, but these five teams may call and find out what his price tag looks like.

Well, probably not right away. But it’s certainly possible the San Francisco 49ers would entertain a trade involving their quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, if the price is right.

Especially in the wake of the breaking news the Niners were moving up to the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft, all but ensuring they’ll take a quarterback this April. And while the reports stated San Francisco is committed to Garoppolo for 2021, that doesn’t need to carry weight for the long run.

Don’t forget Jimmy G’s 2021 cap hit is $26.4 million, according to Over the Cap, so being able to move on from him and focus on acquiring a younger, cheaper option this April would free up quite a bit of money over the long run that could help bolster up some of the team’s weaker positional units.

Currently, Jimmy G is signed through 2022. But if San Francisco was to move on from him this offseason, a trade would net the 49ers $23.6 million in cap savings.

While the Niners aren’t in trouble in terms of cap space, they do have some major deals on the horizon that’ll require plenty of additional cap space, including eventual extensions for All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner and eventually for Pro Bowl EDGE Nick Bosa. With a lot of money already committed in 2022, along with those extensions likely to happen within a year’s time, San Francisco might have to go with a cheaper rookie quarterback taken in this year’s NFL Draft.

Hence trading Garoppolo becomes a real possibility.

The real question, however, is which teams would be realistic potential suitors for the 29-year-old signal-caller?

Well, in this article we’ll take a look at five teams that could be picking up the phone and calling general manager John Lynch to strike a deal.
