3 reasons why Brandon Aiyuk is even better for 49ers in 2021
By Peter Panacy
No. 1: Brandon Aiyuk needs more consistent quarterbacking
Whoever the 49ers employ under center in 2021, whether it be Jimmy Garoppolo, a big-name trade pickup like Deshaun Watson or an NFL Draft rookie, Brandon Aiyuk would stand to benefit from having a regular quarterback over the entire duration of the season.
Not splitting his time between three different signal-callers.

It’s still quite impressive enough Aiyuk was able to manage his stats last year with three different names: Garoppolo, Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard. Aiyuk’s total yardage was split relatively well enough between the first two. Yet for whatever the reasons, as Aiyuk was closing in on Jerry Rice’s record in Week 16, Beathard targeted Aiyuk just twice for one catch and 15 yards.
Shame.
Beyond the numbers, receivers and their quarterbacks need to develop chemistry and trust. That comes with repetition and time, which can be developed in training camp and molded further throughout the regular season.
In Aiyuk’s case, getting an upgrade over Garoppolo at some point might be great. But the first most-important element would be finding some consistency.
Not having to deal with a revolving door at the position.
If the 49ers stay healthy at quarterback, regardless of who it is, Aiyuk should be able to have his breakout second year at the pro level.
