49ers Trade Partner No. 2: Washington Football Team

In previous years, a deal between the 49ers and the Washington Football Team would have been inconceivable. At least in the wake of the disintegrated relationship between Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan and Washington’s owner, Dan Snyder.

But that all changed in 2020 when John Lynch was able to engineer a move with Washington for veteran tackle Trent Williams, thanks largely to head coach Ron Rivera changing the culture within the Football Team’s organization.

So, could a deal between San Francisco and Washington be on the table again?

Unlike the Lions, the Football Team has a clear quarterbacking need moving forward, a late first-round draft pick (No. 19 overall) and enough selections later in the draft to move up to No. 12 overall.

Again, assuming a quarterback like Trey Lance falls and the 49ers aren’t interested in grabbing him, Washington might want to leapfrog other quarterback-needy teams selecting ahead of them like the Las Vegas Raiders (No. 17) and New England Patriots (No. 15) in order to get its hands on a prospective signal-caller.

Unless the Football Team is convinced Kyle Allen is the answer under center.
