2021 NFL Draft: Washington (via Patriots) selects quarterback Mac Jones, Alabama

Another Round 1 trade.

True, the New England Patriots are going to be in the market for a quarterback. But predicting what head coach Bill Belichick will do is nearly impossible, and it’s not his history to reach on players in the draft anyway.

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones would be a reach at No. 15, but trading up for him makes some sense from the Washington Football Team’s vantage point. The Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts both have quarterbacking needs and could easily trade up above Washington’s top pick at No. 19 overall, meaning Washington has to get a bit aggressive here to solve its own situation under center.

The Football Team has a defense ready to win now. It just lacks an effective quarterback for the long run, and getting a reliable-if-not-flashy signal-caller like Jones would hopefully solidify the position while denying teams like the Bears and Colts a shot at a quarterback.
