2021 NFL Draft: One quarterback SF 49ers can scout in each round

SF 49ers Target for Round 7: Levi Lewis, Louisiana
A true project-type flier here in Round 7, but Louisiana’s Levi Lewis has a lot of traits worth exploring if the SF 49ers want to use one of their two seventh-round selections to round out the quarterback room.

Lewis, 5-foot-10 and 184 pounds, is going to have a lot of the same question marks about size and durability both the Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson and Arizona Cardinals’ Kyler Murray had upon entering the league. Yet both Wilson and Murray are thriving despite their shortish statures.
And interestingly enough, the Niners have to face both quarterbacks twice a year.
That alone, when combined with Lewis’ scrambling abilities (335 yards on the ground in 2020), make for at least an enticing scout-team addition to prepare San Francisco’s defense for mobile quarterbacks who are shifty and elusive. But Lewis has more to his game than just being a tough tackle, too.
Lewis, the southpaw, has some tremendous improvisational skills that will make for a tough scouting report on him from opponents.
At the same time, though, he’s nowhere near as decisive with his ball placement, and accuracy can be a bit of a problem for him even when he has a clean pocket.
As a developmental project, though, Lewis could be an attractive add for an SF 49ers team looking to join the ranks of boasting dual-threat quarterbacks.
