SF 49ers: 5 moments where things all went wrong in 2020

No. 1: Jimmy Garoppolo goes down with an ankle injury
Week 2 was ugly despite the SF 49ers pulling off a road win over the NY Jets.
In addition to losing Nick Bosa, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered the first of what ended up being two high-ankle sprains during the year, ultimately being removed and missing two more weeks before scuffling and not being right against the Miami Dolphins in Week 5, gutting out wins over the LA Rams and Patriots in Weeks 6 and 7 before injuring his ankle again in Week 8 against the Seahawks.

That would be it for Jimmy G for the rest of 2020.
It’s a fair argument to wonder if Garoppolo is the best fit for Kyle Shanahan’s offense, and questioning whether or not Jimmy G will don a Niners uniform in 2021 and beyond is a fair point, too.
Yet there’s no way to get around the fact Shanahan tends to win when Garoppolo is under center.
With four years under his coaching belt, Shanahan’s record is 22-8 in the regular season when Garoppolo starts. When it’s been someone else under center, Shanahan has gone 7-27.
Quarterback wins are kind of a silly stat when taken out of context. But in Garoppolo’s case, San Francisco lost its best chance at winning games this season when he was no longer in the picture.
And one could argue things would have looked drastically different if he stayed healthy over the course of 2020.
