SF 49ers Cornerback Jason Verrett

Editor’s update: Jason Verrett was ruled inactive for Week 15 because of a non-COVID illness, per the 49ers PR department Sunday.

Cornerback Jason Verrett has been the sweet spot in what has been a very bittersweet season for both the SF 49ers and their fans. Coming off a Super Bowl loss, hopes were high in the Bay Area, but injuries and some poor play to begin the season, quickly put an end to the 49ers “Revenge Tour.”

Although the season has turned out to be what everyone expected it to be, we’ve finally gotten to see what it’s like to have a healthy Verrett, and it’s been fantastic especially with his position mate, Richard Sherman, missing nine games this season.

Verrett is not just healthy, but he appears to be back to full form with the way he’s been playing this season, as this thread from Fourth and Nine’s Eric Crocker pointed out.

This week, Verrett is going to need to be on his A-game and for that reason, expect him to have a big game against the three-headed monster that is the Cowboys receiving corps: Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb.

As we’ve seen in the past, teams don’t like to test Sherman unless they absolutely have to, which means Verrett could see a bulk of the targets. Verrett has two interceptions on the season thus far, could we see him add another on Sunday?
