SF 49ers vs. Seahawks: 5 bold predictions for Week 8
By Peter Panacy
Prediction No. 1: SF 49ers win on a last-second field goal
For years now, it seems as if the Seahawks have been able to win games in the oddest of fashions, almost always in a one-score game.
Why don’t the Niners flip the script, just like the Cardinals did last week in overtime?

This was nearly the case when San Francisco hosted Seattle last season at Levi’s Stadium, following a dramatic comeback by Kyle Shanahan’s squad and a would-be game-winning field goal in overtime ultimately missed, allowing the Seahawks to defeat the SF 49ers for their first loss of 2019.
The Niners won’t get that revenge honor, thanks to Arizona’s efforts last Sunday. But considering Seattle has a scoring differential of 5.2 points this season, 12th overall in the league and worst among all squads with one loss or fewer at this point in the season, it’s entirely possible the situation late in the fourth quarter puts San Francisco in position to win on a last-second field goal.
Time of possession has been critical to Shanahan’s efforts this season, largely to cover up a vulnerable defense.
So, based on the betting-odds favorites, let’s go with the Niners managing the clock on a final fourth-quarter drive to punch it through via Robbie Gould as time expires.
The SF 49ers and Seahawks kick off their Week 8 matchup on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
