SF 49ers Standout No. 2: Defensive End Kerry Hyder Jr.

When defensive end Nick Bosa tore his ACL against the New York Jets earlier this season, the SF 49ers pass rush took a considerable hit. And that hit hasn’t been made easier by the fact fellow edge rusher Dee Ford has been sidelined with a back injury and has no timetable for a return.

Defensive end Kerry Hyder Jr., fortunately, has stepped it up in the weeks following.

Against the Dolphins, Hyder Jr. got to Ryan Fitzpatrick for one sack, but he was constantly pressuring him all day. The pass rush of the 49ers seemed ineffective for the most part, except for when it came from Hyder.

He was the one silver lining on the defensive line, and he now leads San Francisco’s defense with 3.5 sacks.

Not bad for a player many thought was on the roster bubble in training camp.
