No. 1: Al Davis said it best: “Just win, baby”

As mentioned earlier, Nick Mullens has a chance to prove his worth for a contract in 2021. He could be proving to the SF 49ers he’s the right guy to keep around in case Jimmy Garoppolo is hurt again, or he could be proving to another NFL team he can lead their franchise to the promised land.

Winning is the obvious goal every single week. But the Niners were expected to roll into New York, sweep the MetLife Stadium series and leave being near the top of the NFC West.

This was before all the injuries.

The opportunity to sweep is still there. Let’s be real, the Giants shouldn’t make this game close. Mullens has running back Jerick McKinnon, tight end Jordan Reed, and a bunch of receivers who want to prove themselves. This game is there for the taking.

It might also be early in the year, but with the way the NFC West is playing out, the SF 49ers have to win these easy games. They have a long stretch of tough games coming up and if they aren’t hanging around when they take on the Rams, the season could be done long before then.

Of course, we don’t know if Mullens will get the start on Sunday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has said there’s a chance Garoppolo plays.

Stranger things have happened in 2020. Best to be prepared.
