49ers Winner: Dante Pettis

A maligned player on the San Francisco roster, wide receiver Dante Pettis is taking advantage of some opportunities created by injuries at the position to show he still has something to offer the team.

With incumbent starter Deebo Samuel likely missing the beginning of the season, and with the previously mentioned Jalen Hurd out for the year, it provides snaps and opportunities for other receivers on the depth chart.

Enter Pettis, the forgotten receiver who has had a strong start to camp to stake his claim for a shock starting role for the beginning of the season.

The biggest knock on Pettis was both his attitude towards his career and his toughness (or lack thereof), but some noted reflection on the part of Pettis as well as some catches made over the middle during camp shows he has done a good job on working on these flaws.

It’s going to be a long way back for the man who was a healthy scratch from the Super Bowl, but Pettis has had a good start.
