49ers vs. Rams: 2020 offseason final thoughts

The Rams are a very interesting team coming off their 9-7 finish to last year and then looking at the all-in mentality that put them in a precarious cap situation, and there wasn’t a lot they could do in the offseason, at least as far as free agency was concerned.

Los Angeles simply did the best it could considering the circumstances. The 49ers were just in a better situation and made some good moves overall. The fact the Niners were able to get a very talented Trent Williams for two mid-round picks was nothing short of remarkable. The Rams did not make any moves similar to that.

I have to give the 49ers a win in this particular NFC West offseason battle. Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch put San Francisco in a good position to maintain continuity and prowess heading into 2020. Despite the challenges the Niners faced, they are nowhere near the kind of situation the Rams found themselves in this offseason.

Instead, the Niners have done a great job of replacing the pieces they ultimately lost, and that gives the offseason edge to San Francisco.
