The San Francisco 49ers were one of the coaching staffs for the 2019 Senior Bowl, and came away impressed with several players both in practices and the game. A couple of months later, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and linebacker Dre Greenlaw were wearing red and gold.
Not to mention franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who helped his draft stock from his Senior Bowl appearance, as well.
Samuel is one of the most exciting offensive rookies in the NFL, while Greenlaw looks every bit a steal as a fifth-round pick, and has already sealed his place in 49ers lore when he stopped Seattle Seahawks tight end Jacob Hollister just short of the end zone to seal the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
The 49ers have done very well in drafting talent from the Senior Bowl, and while they don’t have the benefit this year of coaching one of the teams and getting a close look at the prospects, they would surely be interested in going back to the well.
While the 49ers currently have a Super Bowl to prepare for, they’ll still have had their scouts locked into the Senior Bowl looking to find some talent. This is especially true for talent for the second half of the draft, as the 49ers will be waiting a long time unless they trade their first-round selection for some more picks.
With that in mind, here are some Senior Bowl standouts the 49ers may look at to add to their team.
