No. 5: Emmanuel Moseley Needs to Start at Cornerback

When the San Francisco 49ers lost starting cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon to a lengthy foot sprain earlier this season, veteran corner Richard Sherman told reporters not to worry about Witherspoon’s fill-in replacement, Emmanuel Moseley.

It sure appears as though Sherman was correct.

Witherspoon returned late in the season, struggling a bit before being benched in favor of Moseley against both the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17, and again versus the Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round.

Moseley got the start against the Packers, and he made quite the impact.

Late in the second quarter, Moseley picked off Rodgers by jumping the route, setting up what would be yet another Niners touchdown before halftime:

Considering Rodgers tossed just four interceptions during the regular season, Moseley’s accomplishment is quite noteworthy.

There’s no reason to make a switch here in Super Bowl LIV. Simply put: Moseley needs to be starting opposite Sherman.
